Inside - Outside - Inside - Outside

SERIOUSLY!

Bodhi knocks on the glass door when he wants out. He'll knock and knock. AND knock. Then you get up, walk across the house, or the room and open the door then he pops out his head, takes a sniff, turns around and stays inside.

ARGH! Good thing he's cute!

Boxer to the Emergency Vet

Last Monday Astrid had a bump on her head, which progressed to a few hives...

We had been down this road before with Bodhi and figured that Astrid had gotten bitten by a bug like Bodhi did a couple years earlier ~ so we gave her some Benadryl.

Hive abated, came back, redose, abated, redose - all seemed AOK.

Tuesday Morning Astrid blew the doggy chunks of the century (on the carpet) and you could tell she just did not 'feel good'. After she tossed her cookies the hives were totally gone... So no more Benadryl.

That evening she got the squirts, blood red and mucus-like...I called the Emergency Vet and they said it'd be best to bring her in.

Dehydrated, IV hydration, an over night stay and $683 later she's better...The vet thinks it was a Spider bite - EEK! We've been finding MONSTER spiders all over the INSIDE of the house so it's quite possible...

She's all better now, and it was worth every penny :)

Sunday

WHOSE bed IS IT?

Seriously, why does Bodhi think he is allowed to knock all the covers off the bed so he can lay on the cool sheets?

Astrid loves the fuzzy blankets, Bodhi the sheets - sigh - spoiled, spoiled, spoiled!

Astrid's new nick name is 'Dusty'

So on Saturday I see a mini dust storm from the back yard.... Upon further investigation I realize it is Astrid, on her back, rolling and basking in the DIRT. *sigh*

She sees me watching her and flies at warp speed and then I close the glass door. She stares at me like I've commited a major crime in sealing her and her dust on the other side of the door.

I grab a cloth, go outside and wipe her down. However she is totally blissful, like it was the massage of the century. No sooner than 2 seconds later she was rolling in the dirt again, I swear only to get another rub down.

Sigh - I guess she taught ME a new trick!

The face of innocence...

Hug your Boxer daily, no matter how DUSTY she is!

How many pictures does it take to get a Boxer to stay still?

One...

Two...

Three!

The elusive Astrid strikes again! She's cute, BUT when you want a picture then she refuses to cooperate!
  • Frame one WAS perfect, upon snap she ducked!
  • Frame two, she tried to escape, stage left...
  • In frame 3 she is doing the cute little Boxer 'rrr rrr rrrrr' at the camera showing how tough she is!

She's just cute no matter what way you see her!

They said they didn't do it...

They said they didn't do it...

Who me? It was Astrid...

Who ME? It was Bodhi...
Innocence within the eye of the beholder - I think they are in cahoots as they both look pretty guilty to me... When asked who stole the shoe, they both offered blank expressions yet some how blaming the other...
Hmmm...

Boxer Butts Drive me Nuts...

Boxer Butts Drive me Nuts...
This is Astrid's tiny hiney, see those thighs? Pure muscle, this girl can JUMP!

The big one Bodhi, small Astrid. When we got Bodhi we
THOUGHT he was going to be Astrid's size. Apparently
he keeps growing...

Have you ever seen a Boxer butt in action? Here are some Boxer Butt 'terms'....
  • Kidney Bean : This is when a Boxer is SO excited to see you they curve into the shape of a Kidney Bean. I think this is due to the fierce wagging of the nubby tail, without the length to absorb all that energy the whole body arcs!
  • Hummingbird : This is when the little nub moves so fast all you see is a blur. This indicates a Boxer is SO happy they can hardly contain themselves. This is often followed by the butt wiggle, and the shiver as the vibration from the Hummingbird travels through the body.
  • Tic Toc Clock : This is when the nub is happy, yet curious. Wagging very slowly like the pendulum on a clock, not quite sure if it is coming or going. Just very slow like a tic - toc - tic - toc. This usually happens when a Boxer is excited and curious, i.e. the first meeting with a cat who is hissing at them.
  • The One Eye Wink : You'll notice this when the Boxer indicates the desire to visit the yard to 'take care of business'. I really need not say more because if you have a Boxer you know exactly what I mean...
  • Vapor Lock : This is when one Boxer is scared and running, they have no tail to put between their legs so their tail locks down over the, um, err, 'door bell' for lack of a better word. Now if we could command the 'Vapor Lock' to initiate with the 'Psssssss' (see below) happens the hole might be smaller in the ozone layer...
  • Pssssssssssssss : This is when you should run, evacuate, cover your head and hide. This indicates a Boxer Fart. For some reason Boxers are notorious for passing gas, in the worst way. They are not quiet about it either. Sometimes you get the 'psssst' sometimes you think your husband let one loose on the leather couch. Regardless, accept the warning as a 5 second window to escape from impending doom because Boxers don't do 'fun farts' they spread the wealth...

So, there is my 'tail' for the day, I hope you enjoyed it!

The 'End'

No dogs on the couch...

No Dogs on the Couch...

Yep, we had that rule back when we got our new leather couch, the one with the gentle recline, electric, with a touch of a button...

Then came along Astrid, we adopted her from Boxers And Buddies in Reno, Nevada. Well, as you can see the 'no dogs on the couch' rule flew out the window. She has 'daddy' wrapped around her little tail nub!

Boxers and SNOW!

Hello Fellow Boxer Lovers.

Boxers and SNOW!

Boxers typically are not 'snow' dogs, being a short hair breed with a very lean, muscular build they don't have a lot of body to hold in the heat.

Bodhi and the snow...

We got Bodhi as a puppy in 2006, he met his first snow in the Winter of 2006 and fell in LOVE! He tosses it, twirls in it, bounces in it and races in it. Throw a snow ball and the goof ball will spend several minutes looking for it and then he'll eat it. He LOVES to eat the snow!

Bodhi is the bohemuth of Boxers weighing in at over 95# if not 100# by now. He's never been 'cold' in the snow and we bring him in because WE'RE cold, however he'd keep on trucking out there as long as he could.

Astrid and the snow...

We got Astrid as a rescue in 2007, she met her first snow in the Winter of 2007. Orginally from CA she had never experienced the white stuff and it was quite an effort to get her to walk out the door. Once she saw Bodhi having fun she walked on the deck under the overhang where there was no snow falling. She pee'd on the deck not wanting to get her furry tootsies cold! However, finally she hopped into the knee high snow like a blissful deer. Hopping and twisting like Tigger simply having a ball.

A very petite Boxer Astrid was shivering, so we put on a dog coat we had and she was a happy camper playing out there with Bodhi. It was a race to see who could jump, twist and chop more snow.

Watch the cold...

Keep an eye on your Boxers in the snow, make sure they have a nice warm place to come in to and never EVER leave your Boxer outside in the cold weather. Boxers are INSIDE dogs and should never be left out for extended periods of time in the cold OR hot.
